The Best of Syria group tour March 2011 Dear Helen We write to thank you for arranging such a wonderful and extensive tour in Syria in March. It is a wonderful historic country, with lovely welcoming people. Most of the hotels were excellent by any standard, especially in Damascus, Palmyra and Aleppo. Being a real small group meant that our enjoyment was greatly enhanced. Moreover we had a superb guide in Nadim, who added immensely to our enjoyment. Ibrahim was a great driver with a comfortable vehicle. If only we could speak Arabic to have conversed with him too! Your itinerary and choice of local hotels were major reasons for choosing your company and we were amply rewarded by that choice. We would not have missed any part of it - indeed we could have happily enjoyed more days in Syria. We always felt completely safe there, more so than in most European cities we have visited. By chance we met a couple who had been to Syria, returning the day after our tour. As we compared experiences, they became clearly more and more envious of the extra opportunities offered by the tour you had organised. If we are ever able to return to Syria we will know who to ask! The Best of Syria-group Tour 17-29 March 2011 Dear Helen I can not speak highly enough of our trip with you to Syria. Exhausting it may have been, as we had so much to cram into under 2 weeks, but it was worth every minute. You must have found us one of the best, if not THE best guides in Nadim, whose care and kindness, charisma and incredible knowledge and passion for that amazing country made it a very special tour. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and of course we had the added bonus of your company for a lot of the time. You and he (not to mention Ibrahim our wonderful driver) made a great team, and although you must have had a lot of worries during that whole time, you never got them across to us and always seemed calm and even got us to every scheduled site. It is one of the most fascinating countries I have ever been to and gave me so much food for thought. I would recommend your company to anybody who wanted to see the real Syria and have already got a friend who might do it privately with a friend one day - but now is not exactly the right time and I do so hope your company, and guides like Nadim, will manage to carry on in this present tricky political climate. Joan and Alan Davies/ March Tour 2011 Helen We write to express our thanks for organising our recent tour of your homeland. Without being overtaxing, your itinerary covered just about all of Syria’s most important historical sites and gave us a great insight into your country’s history. On seeing other tour groups of forty or more we were thankful we were a party of only ten. Our coach was very comfortable and our driver, Ebrahim, both courteous to us and considerate to other road users. Our guide Nadim was knowledgeable and responsive to any request put to him. We liked the hotels you had booked, particularly the two boutique ones in Damascus. We found the people of Syria most friendly and welcoming. We particularly enjoyed wandering in the souks in both Damascus and Aleppo and appreciated not being taken to trade outlets to buy things we did not want – as we have experienced on other group tours. We sincerely hope the current unrest in the Middle East will quickly resolve itself so that others will be able to enjoy visiting Syria as much as we did. Thank you.
Meryel, March Tour 2011 What a delightful tour organised by Syria Travel! In the larger towns of Damascus and Aleppo we stayed in boutique hotels in old wealthy town houses, with bedrooms round a cool courtyard, usually with fountain and original decor from their elegant previous owners. After exploring the highlights of Damascus we travelled across miles of desert with the amazing ruined Roman town of Palmyra arising out of the sand. We stayed right beside the ruins in the luxury Zenobia Hotel built in the 1920s and visited by people like Agatha Christie. Down to the great Euphrates River where our knowledgable and amusing guide steered us through the intricacies of 3000BC ruins and civilisations. After a stay in the old city of Aleppo with souk, citadel and small local factories, we ended our holiday in the western mountains scrambling up into Crusader and Saracen castles, full of wild flowers. I can thoroughly recommend this well organised tour with a particularly excellent guide in charge who not only knew and loved his country, but also smoothed out any small wrinkles immediately. We loved it and it will always be one of our most memorable holidays.There is so much to see and the people are incredibly friendly and helpful. You found some very good, comfortable hotels for us and everything went very smoothly. The local guide & Syria Travel representative was indispensable - he proved to be an excellent guide around Damascus and sorted out last minute hotel changes, with great efficiency and attention to detail. The local driver was excellent - we felt very safe and comfortable with him, he never grew impatient with other drivers and we would recommend him to anyone. It all went well, we appreciated the good hotels and being looked after by your representative, we ate some good food, saw so many interesting places and varying landscapes, and the sun shone!
